Whether it’s for pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical wholesalers or veterinarians, Pharma International (phi) imports medicines from all over the world. In addition, the company exports German and international medicines around the globe. “Of course, German registration and import regulations are the basis of our work”, explains Frank Messer, who is responsible for PR at phi.
Pharma International developed out of “Apotheke International” in Frankfurt. Customers from all over the world resulted in international contacts. Pharmacist Cordula Messer has been head of the company since 1987. In 1990, they decided to move their premises to Mainz.
“We work with an international network of carefully selected wholesalers and manufacturers in Europe, America and Asia”, Frank Messer explains. “In accordance with paragraph 73 section 3 of the German Medicines Act (AMG), we import medicines which are not available in Germany quickly and reliably for pharmacies and veterinarians.” The German Medicines Act allows the import of medicines which are not registered in Germany in individual cases. This is to ensure that patients can be supplied with medicines which are not yet registered here or are no longer on the market. “It also applies to temporary supply bottlenecks or if the required strength or dosage form is not available in Germany”, Messer explains.
In addition to its core business of individual import, the Mainz-based company has continually expanded the export of pharmaceutical products over the years. “We supply German medicines which are not available in the target country, but also medicines from other countries in Europe, from the USA, Canada and Japan. In addition, phi’s portfolio also includes nutritional supplements and medical products. “We have the logistic ability to process large volumes, but can also deliver individual packages at any time. We can usually send urgent orders for German medicines on the same or the next day.”
For the shipment of pharmaceutical products in particular, packaging plays a crucial role for quality assurance. “Particularly for long distances, where the use of temperature-controlled vehicles is difficult, the ECOCOOL cool boxes with temperature loggers provided have proven themselves to be particularly reliable.” phi uses the cool boxes for the GDP-compliant, temperature-controlled transport of refrigerated and ambient goods. “Proof of reliable temperature control is supplied by the temperature loggers provided”, Messer continues. Dr Florian Siedenburg is pleased about this enthusiasm for his company’s product solutions: “We are glad to contribute to the supply of safe medicines to patients worldwide.”
