Temperature-sensitive products require protection from the weather when sent via standard parcel services. ECOCOOL offers a particularly economical solution for this, and particularly for the booming online trade, with its new Smartliner cooling packaging. ECOCOOL expert Christian Wittenberg explains the special features of this new packaging innovation.
What is the main strength of the Smartliner?
Our newly developed insulation inlay combined with our Coolpack cooling elements ensures that the target temperature in the shipping box remains stable for up to 48 hours. This allows temperature-sensitive goods such as foodstuffs or medicines to survive standard shipping transport conditions.
What materials are used for the Smartliner?
The heart of the Smartliner is a synthetic fleece inlay for shipping boxes. The light polyester fibres have virtually no effect on the transport weight. Thanks to its cushioning material properties, Smartliner protects sensitive products and encloses them with a simple, foldable seal.
How “ECO” is the Smartliner?
As with the insulating envelope “Smartcooler”, we use 80 per cent recycled PET bottles in production, thus relying on sustainable resources in the production chain.
What sizes are available for the Smartliner?
The insulation inlays are available in three standard sizes: S (360 mm x 200 mm x 210 mm), M (400 mm x 300 mm x 250 mm) and L (580 mm x 380 mm x 200 mm). These are ideal for lining normal shipping boxes. However, we also manufacture customer-specific measurements, including individual branding, on request.
How does ECOCOOL ensure the Smartliner’s quality?
The performance of our products is regularly tested in a climate chamber, adhering to a strict temperature profile. Our Smartliner received very high marks for cooling and insulation. Its insulation properties were tested in a 55-hour test at ambient temperatures between 18 and 32 degrees Celsius. The results show that, in general, the more Coolpack cooling elements are inserted into the Smartliner box inlay, the longer the temperature remains stable during shipping, keeping the goods fresh for the end consumer. The precise interplay between cooling and insulating properties ensures flawless quality for fresh foodstuffs or heat-sensitive beauty products.
Can you briefly summarise the test results?
In the climate chamber test, the insulating performance of size S – equipped with four Coolpack cooling elements (500 grams each) – was 24 hours under 4 degrees Celsius and up to 44 hours under 8 degrees Celsius. Smartliner M was equipped with four Coolpacks in the test and Smartliner L with six (900 grams each). In the case of the medium inlay, the temperature only rose above 4°C after a duration of 38 hours.
