A new product for delivering fresh food – the Coolmailer has arrived!

ECOCOOL will now be marketing a new product for the dispatch of refrigerated or heat-sensitive foods. This product is an insulated bag, marketed under the trade name ‘Coolmailer’.

Managing Director Dr Florian Siedenburg explains the product characteristics of the Coolmailer:

What are the reasons for adding the ‘Coolmailer’ to ECOCOOL’s product portfolio?

For some time now, we have been receiving more and more enquiries for insulated bags or envelopes, on the one hand for the shipping of heat-sensitive (but not necessarily refrigerated) goods, such as chocolate bars or chocolate pralines. We had no product in our portfolio to satisfy this need until now. On the other hand, there is an increasing number of food sellers who are looking for flexible solutions, for example to combine refrigerated goods with dry goods in one package. The ‘Coolmailer’ meets these requirements perfectly.

How is the ‘Coolmailer’ different from the isohood inlay?

Our established isohood inlay packaging offers the possibility to form a complete insulating package with minimum storage requirements. This insulates the whole package, as opposed to the ‘Coolmailer’ which only insulates part of it. It also offers a longer cooling time than the ‘Coolmailer’, using the same cooling additive. Generally, I consider the inlay the more elegant and easy-to-handle product.

An important point from the customer’s point of view is of course the price: The ‘Coolmailer’ costs significantly less than the inlay packaging.

While we are on the subject: how long does the ‘Coolmailer’ keep the goods cool?

Generally, the answer to this question is of course always dependent on the ambient temperature, the quantity of coolpacks used as well as the goods concerned. We have carried out tests with ambient temperatures between 18°C and 30°C, typical for the German summer, and with three cooling elements and managed a duration of approx. 30 hours. This is absolutely sufficient for delivering the goods via express delivery while maintaining the refrigeration chain.

Which products is the ‘Coolmailer’ particularly suitable for?

Generally speaking, all fresh food. But even frozen products such as barf animal feed can be sent conveniently and cost-effectively with the ‘Coolmailer’.

Is the ‘Coolmailer’ also suitable for dispatching pharmaceutical products?

That’s a difficult one to answer because of the very specific and usually very strict provisions for transporting pharmaceutical products. Generally though, a small ‘Coolmailer’ could be quite suitable for keeping pharmaceutical products cool between the chemist and the domestic refrigerator. A further possible pharmaceutical field of application could be dispatching biological sample material to the appropriate laboratories. Today these are often sent completely unprotected, which can be detrimental to sample quality.

Which formats are available and are individual formats or different qualities available?

We are starting with three standard sizes for now:

S: 25 x 18 cm
M: 40 x 40 cm
L: 60 x 40 cm.

All three sizes have a 5 cm closure flap with adhesive strips for easy closure. On request, however, we can always deliver bespoke formats at any time.

Are there any minimum purchase quantities?

Yes. The minimum order quantity for standard sizes is 250 items. For bespoke formats this is increased to 1,000 items.
